Štrbské Pleso

Štrbské Pleso

Štrbské Pleso is one of the most popular ski and tourist centers in the High Tatras throughout the year. For all visitors to Štrbské pleso, there is a wide range of accommodation, quality services and various options for where to go in your free time.
Štrbské Pleso is known mainly for its skiing opportunities for all skiers and lovers of winter sports, who require quality and long slopes with easy access. In addition to the ski slopes, there are also groomed cross-country trails in the area, several kilometers long. Even in summer, it attracts many tourists who are looking for opportunities for hiking and walking in the surrounding Tatra peaks. After all, the path to any Tatra ball or to the high peak of the Tatra mountain never loses its appeal.

Štrbské pleso

Štrbské pleso is probably the most famous and most visited Tatra lake. It is located in the village of Štrba - local part of Štrbské Pleso. Even before this area became a ski and tourist mecca in Slovakia, it was a place that attracted mainly loggers, herbalists, hunters and coal miners. The surroundings of Štrbské pleso are an important Tatra tourist center. Staying in this resort is simply an unforgettable experience. In the summer months, the surface of Štrbské pleso has a magical atmosphere and you are the only one who can hang it in a boat and meditate on the beautiful nature with a view of the Tatra peaks, on the contrary, in winter the frozen surface of especially skaters will enjoy. A beautiful path leads along the perimeter of the ball, directly intended for romantic or family walks.

Cafe Monte Mory

In 1905, Karol Móry had a wooden tower built on a hill above Nový Štrbské pleso, from which it was beautiful to see the peaks of the High Tatras, Popradská dolina and part of the Low Tatras. Later it was inherited by his nephew Ján Móry, who rebuilt the wooden viewpoint into a brick one. However, the Móry family were forced to leave Štrbské Pleso and the prospect began to decay. It was not until 2013-2018 that the prospect underwent extensive reconstruction. At the same time, the café with a view, which was declared a National Cultural Monument in 1963, is reopened and enjoys the visits of new customers. In the cafe you will find excellent coffee with a beautiful view in a quiet environment, terrace, WiFi zone, parking and your pets have not forgotten, whom you can take with you.

Around the Štrbské Pleso

There is an educational trail around the Pleso, focusing on the history, fauna, flora, spa history and personalities who worked here. It consists of 40 stylish wooden info panels (in Slovak and English). The sidewalk is barrier-free and accessible all year round. It is ideal to start in front of the railway station, which is the final stop of the cog railway and the Tatra tram.

From Štrbské Pleso to Popradské Pleso and back

The route is full of nice views and is also suitable for smaller children. It's really a leisurely walk. The route is also called the Forest between Pleso and Pleso. It is again an educational trail with 14 stops, where you can learn details about what species of plants and animals are here. It is ideal to start at Štrbské pleso and follow the red sign. Upon arrival at the destination, you can refresh yourself in the restaurant or just enjoy the view of the Tatra peaks, towering over Popradský pleso.

Cottage Pod Rysmi

Very nice, but already more demanding all-day hike. You will cross the Mengusovská valley, around Popradský pleso and you will come to Chata pod Rysmi. From Hotel Patri near Štrbské pleso, follow the red sign to the crossroads above Popradský pleso. It continues along the forest road (later it turns into rhododendron) to the Mengusova valley to the crossroads above the Žabí stream. Here a steep climb to Žabá dolina and then to the basin of Žabí plies awaits you. The path will lead you over Veľké Žabie pleso, you will go through steep curves under the rock wall and you will get to the straighter part to the waterfalls. From there you proceed to the cottage under Rysmi.

Cottage Pod Soliskom

This is a moderately demanding hike. The route leads under the cable car to Chata pod Soliskom. Those who prefer relaxation can therefore go up comfortably. Those who decide to go up on their own will set off from the railway station in Štrbské Pleso following the blue sign. It will take you directly to Chata pod Soliskom. It is the youngest alpine cottage in the High Tatras. Upstairs you will have a really unique view of Kriváň and the Low Tatras.

Waterfall Skok

On many portals you will find this tour marked as undemanding. However, most advise her rather than moderately demanding. Not only because of the length but especially because of the type of sidewalks you walk on. A large part of the route leads over rocks and they tend to be slippery (especially after rain). However, the orientation is unproblematic, the views impressive and the Waterfall Skok really roaring and huge. The water falls from a height of more than 25 m. The hike starts at the railway station on the asphalt road to the ski jumps. There you will connect to the yellow sign, which will lead you through the beautiful Mlynická valley to the end of the tour. And one more nice bonus - along the way there is a high probability that you will meet chamois.

Big Hincove Pleso

It is a roughly half-day, moderately demanding and very nicely marked hike. It starts at the railway station, from where you go to the crossroads Pod Heliosom and follow the red road to the stream Mlynica. You will pass Trigan and reach Popradské pleso. You continue along the forest road to Mengusovská dolina and you will reach the crossroads above Žabí potok. From here you continue along the blue mark, steep serpentines and undulating terrain will take you to the Great Hincov Ball. It is the largest lake on the Slovak side of the Tatras. It is interesting that about 270 days a year it is covered with ice.

Batizovské Pleso

Here, too, it is about a half-day hike, but beware, it also includes a strenuous ascent to the saddle below Ostrva. From the train station you can reach the Pod Heliosom crossroads. From there, follow the red sign to Popradské pleso. Follow the red sign and continue over Ľadový potok to Zlomiskova dolina to the aforementioned strenuous ascent. But behind the saddle, the sidewalk already maintains about the same altitude. Through the Batizovská valley you can reach the banks of the Batizovské pleso in an arc. It is one of the quietest valleys.

Kôprovský Štít

Kôprovský štít is one of the eight peaks of the High Tatras, which are accessible to tourists. It is located at the end of the Mengusovská valley. From Hotel Patria, follow the red sign across the Mlynica stream. Then you will reach the Poprad Ball again. From the ball, take the forest path (later through the rhododendron) to the Mengusovská valley to the crossroads above the Žabí stream. You will cross the Hincov stream and get to the Veľký Hincov ball. From the ball, continue on a steep climb until you reach Vyšné Kôprovské sedlo. You will follow the red trail along a very rubble path and you will reach the top of Kôprovské štít. Wonderful views of Rysy, Kriváň as well as Mengusovské štít are waiting for you. It should be noted that this is a more demanding tourist route.

Kriváň

This is a full-day alpine hike with a really significant elevation gain. But the reward will be really breathtaking views and ultimately the best. Captivating hill, typical of the western part of the High Tatras. From the train station, head to Hotel Solisko. Follow the red sign to the Crossroads below the Furkot Valley. You continue through the forest over a small stream Biely Váh to Jamské pleso. After the next ascent you will reach Rázcestie pod Kriváňom, from there you will continue in blue to Daxner's saddle to Malý Kriváň. The hike is steep, it climbs rocks, so be really careful. After about an hour you will reach the top of Kriváň. In nice weather you can enjoy really beautiful views.

There are 8 ski slopes and 6 cable cars and lifts. The ski resort on Štrbské pleso offers 9 kilometers of easy and medium slopes. Experienced skiers and families with children will enjoy themselves.
