Tatranská Lomnica

Tatranská Lomnica

The largest Tatra settlement fulfills several functions. It is a tourist center in the true sense of the word, offering ski terrains in the city and at the Rocky Ball a range of mountain transport facilities. Accommodation options range from campsites to luxury hotels. It is the headquarters of the Tatra National Park and the Museum of the Tatra National Park. There are casinos, fitness centers, swimming pools, cultural and entertainment facilities. The settlement also serves as a housing and is a center of services and shops. It has good transport connections to the foothills and the only Tatra cable car to Lomnický štít. There is also a picnic meadow, sports fields, a paddock for horse racing and other tourist attractions.

Ski museum

SKI MUSEUM in Tatranská Lomnica is the first private museum of winter sports in the High Tatras. The museum exposition covers the area of almost 300 m² history of the origin and development of Tatra winter sports from the beginning of Tatra settlements, mainly until 1945. Visitors to the museum will learn a lot of interesting information about the beginnings of skiing, skating, curling, climbing, sledding or on bobsleighs in the High Tatras. Each thematic area is complemented by exhibits and period photographs, which together with the textual part create a perfect picture of what it once looked like in our mountains.

Skalnaté pleso

Skalnaté pleso is located directly above the Tatra settlement and the famous tourist resort Tatranská Lomnica at an altitude of 1,764 m above sea level. It is a place where the steps of tourists go to enjoy the beautiful views of the surroundings. In addition to the ball itself (which is of the moraine type), there is also the building of the Astronomical Observatory, which is known for its characteristic silhouette. You can visit it on foot, enjoying the beautiful nature and fresh air, or you can take a comfortable cable car from Tatranská Lomnica to Skalnaté Pleso.

Lomnický štít

Take a trip with your family to the second highest peak of the High Tatras - Lomnický štít. Ride above the clouds and experience unique views of the surrounding peaks of the world's smallest mountains. Enter the kingdom of silence and relax in the stylish Dedo Café. From the valley station in Tatranská Lomnica, a 4-seater cable car leads to the intermediate station Štart, from where a new modern 15-seater gondola will take you to Skalnaté pleso, which is the top station and at the same time a transfer station to Lomnický štít. From there, a unique red cable car will take you to the peak, overcoming an 855-meter elevation gain, and the ride takes 8.5 minutes.

Bobsled

Do you feel like a brisk ride combined with a view of beautiful nature? Then be sure to visit Tatrabob, a bobsled track in Tatranská Lomnica. You pay approximately € 3 for one ride. This year-round attraction is suitable for both young and old. Opinions differ on it, some visitors claim that the bobsleigh ride was too fast for them or their children, while others seemed slow and "boring". The best thing to do is to taste Tatrabob on your own skin.

The TANAP Museum

The TANAP Museum continues the traditions dating back to 1883, when the Hungarian Carpathian Association founded the Carpathian Museum in Poprad. In 1949, the Tatra National Park Act was passed. One of the tasks of the park administration was to create a Research Station and a Museum. From its establishment in 1957 until 1959, the TANAP Museum was housed in the Podtatranské Museum in Poprad. After moving to Tatranská Lomnica, the first exhibition was created in the so-called Sečéniov Summer Palace. The new exposition was installed in a new building, one of the first purpose-built new museums in Slovakia. The museum's collections contain a number of objects from the fields of botany, zoology, history, cartography, geology and ethnography.
